It's a hard world out there...

I just caught a mention to Barbaro on another site, and I just wondered about something. When championship, really top-notch thoroughbred horses break their leg or suffer some other eventually fatal injury, do they preserve the DNA? In a less delicate phrasing, do they collect batches of sperm for as long as the horse can produce it before they have to euthanize the animal? I mean, Barbaro fucking lingered, and that's just a fact. I bet they fucking did. I would believe this with no hesitation if I was told it by some shadowy insider. If some magical progeny of Barbaro goes for thirty mil in a couple of years, we'll know...
